My background

I started out building websites in the late '90s — back when tables were layout tools and PHP was still finding its feet. Since then, I've worked across a huge range of industries: fuel distribution, retail, aviation, automotive, education, and more. Each one taught me something different about building software that actually works for real people.

These days I work almost exclusively with the Laravel ecosystem. The TALL stack — Tailwind, Alpine.js, Livewire, and Laravel — is my daily driver. It lets me build reactive, modern applications without the overhead of a separate JavaScript framework. I genuinely love working with it.

How I work

I take on a small number of clients at a time, mostly on a retainer basis. That means I get to know your codebase inside and out, understand your business goals, and become a genuine long-term partner — not just someone who parachutes in for a sprint and disappears.

I'm direct, proactive, and I communicate in plain English. No jargon, no agency layers, no ticket queues. You deal with me — the person writing your code — and I'll always give you an honest take on what's needed.

What I value

• Honesty — I'll tell you what I think, not what you want to hear. If something doesn't need building, I'll say so.
• Reliability — I do what I say I'll do, when I say I'll do it. No excuses, no radio silence.
• Simplicity — I keep things as simple as they can be, but no simpler. Good architecture doesn't have to be complex.
• Ownership — I care about your product as if it were my own. I flag issues before they become problems.

Outside of work

When I'm not coding, you'll probably find me exploring the Gower coast, walking the dog, or trying to convince myself that this is the year I'll finally get into surfing. I live near Swansea with my family and work remotely from a home office that has far too many monitors.
